5 Easy Ways To Know If A Gaming Chair With Speakers Is Better For You

I was casually scrolling through my Quora feed yesterday after playing Genshin Impact to see if there were any exciting posts when I found two interesting questions “What are your thoughts on gaming chairs with built-in speakers?” and “Do you need a gaming chair with speakers?” Well, it depends.

Knowing if to pick a gaming chair or a gaming chair with speakers depends on 4 main things; your preference, your gaming environment, your budget, and your room. If you’re a headset person or prefer traditional speakers, there’s really no point in getting a gaming chair with speakers. If you always game with other people, it would be best to use headphones so you don’t disturb them, buying a gaming chair with built-in speakers may cost less than buying a gaming chair and then buying headsets or speakers. Lastly, if you share a room, it’s easy to get into arguments if your roommate is always disturbed by your gaming sounds.

Do You Need A Gaming Chair With Speakers?

Although I briefly answered that question earlier, it probably is still not enough for you to decide so I will talk some more about that. This time, let's consider some more factors deeply:

What Kind Of Games Do You Play?

You probably didn’t think of this, did you? Well I didn’t at first, but while I played Call Of Duty on my Samsung Note 10+, I realized I had to turn down, the other volumes and keep the voice chat at the highest just so my teammates could hear me.

We had to ask some gamers who use speakers (inbuilt and desk gaming speakers) their experience and over half of them complained about echos and screeching sounds, a lesser number said they had to adjust their volumes to keep voice chat at the highest and the other sounds much lower (which just isn’t as immersive anymore is it?), the last set of people said they had to move their speakers far away from their mics just so they could communicate clearly. This whole situation not only reduces the immersive sound experience but can also be quite frustrating, I mean, you have all those nice equipment but can’t enjoy them to the fullest, what then was the point of getting them?

Now, if on the other hand, you play solo, or your multiplayer games do not require voice communication, then you’ve cleared this hurdle, but there are also other things to consider.

Do You Stream Your Games Online?

Imagine you went on YouTube to watch Syndicate play and the gameplay audio was so loud you could barely hear Torn talk, or it was so loud you had a headache just watching, would you continue watching or would you check some other channel? Have you considered what your reaction would be? Good! Now, switch places, and see how that plays out for your viewers.

There’s a reason you see every streamer use gaming headsets, be it on Facebook, TikTok, or YouTube, it may be a preference, but I am also willing to bet it’s because a gaming headset is the most optimal accessory to use for streaming. Here’s why streamers use gaming headsets.

If you’re a streamer, there’s really no need to get a gaming chair with speakers, you’re better off using gaming headsets.

Do You Game With Other People Or Alone?

While it is normal to want the most for yourself, it is always better to look at the better picture, if you share a big gaming room with siblings, friends, or even housemates, getting a gaming chair with speakers or any kind of external speakers is just asking for trouble.

Chances are you won’t always play the same games at the same time, it’s even possible that you may not play the same kind of games at all. Jack may be more into horror games while you may be a die-hard God Of War fan. If all of you end up with external speakers like desk speakers or speakers that are built into gaming chairs, then none of you will have that immersive sound experience. When I close my eyes and try to picture the scenario, I see confusion, noise, and utter chaos, perhaps if you have really good gaming speakers, you can save yourself some of that ugly experience.

Do You Have Your Own Room?

Here, gaming chairs with speakers finally have their big win, I mean, it's YOUR room, and it may likely have some sound insulation.

If you don’t stream your games or do voice chats, then you go out there and you get yourself a nice gaming chair with speakers (you should check out the X Rocker series too).

Gaming chairs with speakers have a few merits over the “gaming chair and speaker combo”, and in this situation, it may be better for you to get the 2-in-1 package.

How Much Do You Care About Aesthetics?

If you’re like me and have that flair for orderliness and perfection, you’d probably want to settle for either gaming headsets, gaming speakers, or both. I hate to admit it (just kidding, no, I don’t), but gaming headsets and speakers just give your gaming setup some type of professional feel and look, some type of completeness that gaming chairs with speakers just cannot compete with. If I were to rate a PC gaming setup, then this is probably how I would do it. “No headsets/speakers” - 7/10, “Headsets or gaming speakers” - 8.5/10, and “Headset and speakers” - 9/10.

Hey! That’s just my own opinion, feel free to go wild, after all, it’s your gaming setup, your own gaming space, and you should make it comfortable for you (as long as you’re not sharing that space).

#Bonus Tip: How Much Space Does Your Gaming Desk Have?

“You’re kidding right?”, “Shouldn’t this also be under aesthetics?” Well, yes, and no. You see, while this also falls under aesthetics, it’s strong enough to be considered as a standalone factor.

If you have already considered the first five conditions and realized that it doesn’t still matter and you can use any of the three, then it’s time to consider how much space you have on your gaming setup – desk, floor, shelf, etc.

If your desk is already filled with stuff and you don’t have much legroom left to sneak some speakers on the floor around your desk, then perhaps you should get a gaming chair with speakers. If you have enough legroom but no space on your desk, then gaming speakers could work for you. If you have enough space, then you can just get any of the three.

P.S. You might want to consider wireless headsets and cable management solutions if you have wires all over the place.

How Are Gaming Chairs With Speakers Better Than Gaming Chairs Without Speakers?

While a gaming chair with speakers may not necessarily be better for you, they do have some advantages over conventional gaming chairs. Some of those advantages are:

  • Clear And Directional Sound: Since gaming chairs with speakers typically have the speakers in the backrest and headrest, you’re likely to get clear spatial audio, which actually boosts your immersive experience.
  • Wireless Connectivity And Longer Battery Life: If your gaming chair has speakers, it most likely will support Bluetooth connectivity. What’s more? It definitely will have a longer battery life than conventional wireless devices – you get less clutter, Bluetooth, and a longer-lasting battery, all in one place.
  • Multiple Functions: Gaming chairs are basically for gaming, However, most gaming chairs with speakers also support vibration and massage features making them the perfect all-rounders – you could literally play games, relax, watch movies, and play music, all from and with one chair. It’s a clear win for this one, the ultimate 2-in-1 deal!
  • More Space: By having speakers built into your gaming chairs, you save desk, floor, and shelf space by not getting speakers or a headset. I mean, what’s the need when your chair has got it all?
  • Convenience: When your speakers are built into your chair, you basically don’t have to worry about wires, your ears getting uncomfortable or your headset needing a charge, you can play as long as possible or at least till your body needs to recharge (see what I did there?).
  • Value For Money: Contrary to what you might think, contrary to what I first thought when I heard about gaming chairs with speakers, normal gaming chairs are not necessarily cheaper than the former. The X rocker, which is a gaming chair with inbuilt speakers can be bought for around $90, whereas most gaming chairs range from $150 – $500. And let’s not forget you may have to spend anywhere between $29 – $200 on a headset or gaming speakers, bringing the total to at least $200 and in some cases $700+.

Conclusion

Gaming chairs with speakers may not be super popular or as popular as gaming chairs with LED lights, but they’re still pretty good. However, just because it glitters, does not mean it's gold - what works for the general public may not work for you. It’s best to consider various angles to help you decide what works best for you. Gaming chairs with speakers are a nice present, but preferably if he has his own gaming space where you won’t be disturbed by the sounds.
